This page explains how Course Choice orders, records and shows information, so that you can judge it. It is also the document we would hand a regulator who asked how a claim on this site was arrived at.
How providers are ordered
- Default order is alphabetical by provider name. Nothing else influences it.
- You choose any other sort. Provider type, and fee where we hold fees.
- Sorting by fee never hides a provider. Providers with a dated, sourced price come first, cheapest to most expensive. Providers whose price is not published come next, then providers we have not checked yet. Every row stays on the page.
- Filters (state, provider type, delivery) narrow the list to what you asked for. They are in the page address, so a filtered view can be shared.
How fees are recorded
- A fee is an observation: on a given date, a given page said a given price for a given qualification, provider and audience (domestic or international), of a given kind (full fee, subsidised, concession, promotional).
- Observations are append-only. We never edit or delete one. When a price changes, a new observation is added and the earlier one stays in the record.
- The site shows the most recent observation set for each provider, with the date it was checked and a link to the page it came from.
- Where a provider publishes several prices (for example a full fee and a subsidised fee), we show the range and list each price in the detail.
- Where a provider publishes no price, we record that as an observation too, and the page says Price not published by this provider with the date we checked.
- We do not estimate, average or infer fees. A number is either on the provider’s page or it is not on ours.
How higher education courses are grouped
Course Seeker lists one entry per admission pathway, so one degree at one university can appear dozens of times. We show one page per course per institution and list every pathway, campus and intake on it. Fees shown for higher education are the annual amount the source publishes, labelled as such; we never multiply a yearly figure into a total.
Selection ranks (ATAR)
Where Course Seeker publishes a selection rank profile, we show the lowest and median adjusted ranks with the collection year, and note that they are adjusted ranks, not raw ATARs. Courses without a published profile show nothing.
Why there are no user reviews
We do not collect or display student reviews, and we do not plan to. Reviews on a new site are few and easily gamed, and a gamed review is worse than none. Where reliable outcome data from official surveys becomes available under a licence that permits its use, we will show it with its source and vintage.
What we claim and what we do not
Course Choice provides information about published prices, locations, intakes and registrations. It does not advise you which course to take, predict what you will earn, or guarantee that a price or subsidy applies to you. Eligibility for subsidised fees depends on your circumstances and on the provider’s funding arrangements; confirm it with the provider or the relevant state authority.
